FOUR ON THE FLOOR-STEVE DEMEDASH OF DEMEDASH EFFECTS

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment. Steve has a great appreciation for intellectual output, which can be seen in his choices for his four pedals as well as in his own creations. If you are not familiar with Demedash Effects do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out these choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Strymon-Deco Tape Saturation & Doubletracker

“I did not expect to like this one. I originally had got a BBoss MD-500, the modulation one and uh, it didn’t really bond with it so I returned it. I was curious about the Deco. I didn’t really expect anything out of it and I figured I’d return it two weeks later. But I brought it home and fell in love with it—It’s awesome. I play stereo when I’m at home, just kind of messing around and it is the most beautiful split stage pedal. You know where you go from mono to stereo because you can set it to a wide stereo mode which lets you use the lag knob to set the delay of the right channel with respect to the left channel. My left channel is basically dry. It’s just amazing because most stereo things play with the phase difference so that gives you direct control over the actual phase difference itself—It’s beautiful.

2. 1981 Inventions – DRV Overdrive

“Matt Hoops is an awesome guy and a good friend. This is one of those pedals with a lot of hype around and obviously he’s done a great job of marketing it. I didn’t expect to like it as much as I did. Kind of like the Deco. It’s like based on a RAT pedal, but it is not like a RAT. It almost sounds like you’ve extended the range of every single knob on it. I don’t know. To me it sounds like a RAT that somebody played a guitar track with and then a studio engineer has gone and cleaned that up and made it sound really polished—that is the sound of the pedal. You don’t expect to be as good as it is since there’s so much hype like it can’t be THAT good— it is that good.”

3. Chase Bliss – Thermae Analog Delay/Pitch Shifter

“I just think it is an absolute marvel of engineering. I don’t understand it. The amount of work and ingenuity that went into actually creating the code that runs on it just blows my mind. I don’t understand why Joel did it because it seems like such a headache, but it is a work of art.”

4. Spaceman – Sputnik II Germanium Fuzz

It is just a phenomenal circuit. Zack from spaceman is kind of a mysterious figure. I don’t know anything about him but he does some amazing things.
