FOUR ON THE FLOOR – ROB CHAFE OF MAD COW AMPLIFICATION

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.

Rob knows amplifiers and pedals inside and out, so he know what works. As an actively gigging musician for over 20 years he’s had his share of pedals. If you are not familiar with Mad Cow Amplification do yourself a favor and check him out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Rob’s choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. Demeter – Compulator Compressor

“They make amps and a few other pedals. It’s awesome. I’ve had this for about 20 years now. It doesn’t pump or breathe like a Keeley or an MXR, which are great compressors, but I find them to be more of an effect. The Compulator is more of a studio style compressor. It’s very subtle, great for bass, acoustic an electric guitars. It’s the pedal I have used with my live rig for hundreds of shows.”

2. Fulltone Fulldrive 2 – Mosfet Overdrive

“I’ve tried the entire line of the Fulldrive pedals, the orange, the red, the different blues, and I settled on this one, the blue one with the white knobs. And yes, the colors make a difference, as they signify changes in the circuitry. It is one of the first boutique overdrives on the market. Super well made. I’ve been playing this one for 20 years too.”

3. Fulltone Supa-Trem – Tremolo

“It is THE best tremolo pedal out there, and I’ve tried dozens, and keep looking. I have the old one that is wide and slim. I may be weird here, but I really like the big depth and speed knobs because I can turn them with my foot, and I need them to be spread apart. On a normal size pedal, there is just no way I can do this. It just sounds so great.”

4. Boss DD-5 – Digital Delay

“I like digital delay. I like it because I don’t like the artifacts that are included in an analog delay. The warble, the degradation. I don’t want any of that. I just want a clean echo. Especially in a live situation. The more noise and washiness it puts out just adds to the preexisting undesirable noise in a club or venue setting.”
