FOUR ON THE FLOOR – NERD KNUCKLE EFFECTS CREATOR BRAD MACOMBER

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four ‘must-have’ pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.

Nerd Knuckle Effects brings the noise. Brad makes some mighty fine pedals, extremely well designed and built and is one of the nicest chaps we’ve met. If you are not familiar with Nerd Knuckle Effects do yourself a favor and check them out. Brad gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear the episode for yourself right here. Check out Brad’s choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. ProCo – RAT Distortion

“No matter what, no matter which version it is, I have to have a RAT all the time. These are great for mods too. The circuit is so simple that any little change can have a dramatic effect on the tone, and there are not too many bad tones coming out of these. Every different rat will have a slight difference to it but.. ist still a Rat. Rock and Roll.”

2. Ibanez – Bi-mode Chorus (Series 10)

“It’s Basically two chorus engines both with a rate and depth control, one of them goes a little bit faster; the other one goes a little bit deeper. I love setting one to real fast but shallow and the other to real slow but deep. It’s just a little bit of movement, but man it just crushes.”

3. DOD – Bi-Fet Preamp FX10

“Simple. Your pickups sound too thin? Add a little beef. If you dime everything you get a massive bass overload that can sound really amazing, but it’s really a useful pedal. I have one of the original ones and still love it. The old ones are still really affordable.”

4. Earthquaker Devices – Avalanche Run Stereo Delay and Reverb

“I got one of the last ones just before they moved up to the Flexi Switch which allows you to do both standard latch switching and momentary. This is just such a solid delay, so I am still learning how to use this pedal because there are so many modes and features but so far I just absolutely love it.”
