FOUR ON THE FLOOR – JON PARSONS GUITAR WORKSHOP

The Guitar Knobsblog

What are your four must have pedals? That is what we ask our guests to share with you in our Four On the Floor podcast segment.

Tasmanian luthier Jon Parsons makes some very special guitars out of local Tasmanian woods which have quite unique qualities. He takes his time and crafts them mostly with hand tools. If you are not familiar with Jon Parsons Guitars do yourself a favor and check them out. He gave us a fantastic interview too! You can hear his original interview for yourself right here. Check out Jon’s choices for his Four On The Floor.

1. TC Electronics – Sub N’ Up Octaver

“I’m actually a bass player so I do quite enjoy a bit of octave. The Sub n Up has an octave up and two octaves down. So it’s ridiculous on bass! It has a few different modes as well. It’s got their polyphonic which tracks really well for chords especially and works pretty flawlessly. It also has the classic mode which is monophonic, the older style of octaver. It glitches out a bit but it has a fatter more organic kind of sound. This also has the TC TonePrint setting which allows you to basically do whatever you want with it and upload your settings or download ones you find. You can reassign all the knobs to do different things so I’ve got my TonePrint setting so that my 2 octaves down knob is reassigned to blend in overdrive on the octave up and it’s fully overdriven at the halfway point, and if you go further it actually brings in a bit of chorus. This thing is wicked on bass as well as the guitar of course.” Check out the TC Electronics – Sub N’ Up Octaver

2. Way Huge – Green Rhino Overdrive

“This sounds HUGE on bass because it’s got that 100 Hz boost knob so you can dial back in all the bass that you typically lose on overdrive. I really dig it. I originally bought the Wampler Tumnus but needed this to provide me with more bottom end power for bass.” Check out the Way Huge – Green Rhino Overdrive

3. Way Huge – Supa-Puss Delay

“This is just the best delay pedal I’ve ever played and. I love the grungy lo-fi repeats on it. You can dial in a bit of overdrive on those and it’s got the vibrato that you can add in on the repeats. Slightly gritty, warbly kind of vibe. It also has the tap tempo. It just sounds lovely. It’s got four subdivisions and you can set it to cycle through them automatically and it’s WEIRD! Check out the Way Huge – Supa-Puss Delay

4. Alexander Pedals – Sky Fi Delay & Reverb

“It’s got a nice couple of sounds, but the hold function is great. being able to put down a bet of reverb that just kind of hangs and then you can play over the top of it is really cool. It’s a reverb with a delay on it so that’s an added bonus. I often use delay as a really subtle bed so it’s nice to have a pedal that can just be set for that.” Check out the Alexander Pedals – Sky Fi Delay & Reverb
