FOUR ON THE FLOOR – THE PICKGUARDIAN

The Guitar Knobsblog

Four On The Floor is our new podcast segment in which we ask our guests to name their four must have pedals excluding tuners. Pretty fun right! If they are a pedal builder they cannot name their own pedals of course.

Tony Dudzik was a great guest and we were happy to have him on the show. As a result of his line of work He has handled more guitars than most of us put together ever will, and that is the kind of person we love to talk to! The self confessed “not really a pedal guy” came in with some solid selections and then some. Earlier he did me a solid by making me a fantastic custom pickguard for my Les Paul Special Double Cut so when he asked to include a “Fifth Gear” to our Four On The Floor we had to say yes, so here are his picks.

1. Fulltone – Supa-Trem

“I got a Supa-Trem because I had a couple of amps that didn’t have tremolo built into them. What’s cool about the pedal is that it sounds very much like fender tremolo, but when you mix that at a different rate with an amp that does have tremolo, you can get that Johnny Marr style stutter, which is not something that you use all the time but it is certainly a cool effect.”  Check out the Fulltone Supa-Trem ST-1 Tremolo

2. Dunlop – Rotovibe

“This pedal provides some neat effects. It has a cool little side switch to go from rotary to vibrato.” Check out the Dunlop JD4S Rotovibe

3. VooDoo Lab – Sparkle Drive

“For a live situation that just what i like to kick me into a lead. you can get a nice boost out of it. It has a dirty side and a clean side which you can mix.” Check out the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive

4. VOX – Union Jack Wah

“It was a limited edition pedal that came out and said “I WANT THAT!”. It’s a VOX wah so it does everything a wah pedal should do.” Check out the VOX Union Jack Wah pedal

5. (Bonus) VHT – Valvulator

“This is something i purchased when i first started using two amps on stage and i need a buffer amp or unity gain amp to feed both sides. It’s kind of counter intuitive. Most unity gain or buffer amps are op-amp based. This one actually uses a tube in place of an op-amp. As a side benefit it has jacks that you can plug your pedals into as a power supply. But i use it for feeding two amplifiers or if i have to go direct into a board. It splits the signal and keeps a consistent signal between the two amps and changes the impedance from a high impedance signal to a low impedance signal. It does work a lot magic and if you are using a two amp set up it works great.”

Huge thanks to Tony for being a guest on our show. Please ask him how he can create an awesome custom pickguard for your special guitar at The Pickguardian. We wish him continued success!
